Hibachi Is a Good Room for Children

Most restaurants ask a child to sit still and wait. A hibachi table does the opposite — the entertainment is the cooking, it starts as soon as the chef arrives, and it happens two feet away.

That single fact is why hibachi tables fill with birthday parties. There is no screen to hand over, because the fire, the spatula work and the onion volcano hold attention on their own. Children who normally last twenty minutes at a table tend to last the whole dinner here.

Kids portions

We serve smaller hibachi portions for children, cooked on the same grill as the adult entrees. Chicken and shrimp are the usual choices, and the vegetables and rice are the same. Ask your server for current kids pricing when you are seated, or call (770) 772-6822 before you come in.

Practical notes for parents

• The flame is brief but real. The chef will announce it before it happens. If you are seated with a small child, ask for a seat away from the center of the grill.
• It is loud in a good way. The clatter of spatulas covers a fussy toddler better than a quiet dining room does.
• Come early. The 5:00pm to 6:30pm window is calmer and the wait for a hibachi table is shortest.
• Sushi for kids: the avocado roll, cucumber roll and California roll are the standard starting points, and tamago — sweet Japanese egg omelette — is cooked, mild and usually a hit.
